A Global Network for Fair Technology

Our members form a global, interdisciplinary network dedicated to advancing fair, accountable, and inclusive AI. With professional expertise and experience across technology, law, public policy, humanities, and the social sciences, we work within and alongside the field to research, design, and advocate for solutions to algorithmic bias. As a completely volunteer-based community, we are united by a shared passion for building technology that serves people equitably, and by the belief that interdisciplinary collaboration and the diversity of perspectives drives tangible change.

Meet The Team

Alina Huang

Founder & Director

London, United Kingdom/ Suzhou, China

Founder of the Fair Tech Policy Lab and member of the UN AI for Good Young AI Leaders London Hub. Currently a researcher on algorithmic bias and natural language processing (NLP) at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she evaluates AI models for fairness, validity, and interpretability. A qualitative researcher at reputable UK nonprofit We and AI. Has held an AI product development internship at Robotime Technology. Serves as co-CEO of the Raising Awearness Campaign, a clothing company aiming to provide youth with an avenue to raise social awareness through sustainable clothing. With experience spanning AI ethics, policy research, and public engagement, she leads FTPL’s strategy and projects to advance fair, accountable, and inclusive AI worldwide.

Koki Deng

Researcher

Beijing, China

 

Member of the Global AI Governance Research Lab and Technology Legal Consulting Advisor at a leading international consulting firm, where she focuses on AI governance, compliance, and policy. She provides strategic legal counsel on AI regulations, supports enterprises in building trustworthy AI systems, and guides their transformation toward ethical and compliant deployment. Previously contributed to international projects on responsible AI and governance frameworks, working with cross-sector stakeholders to bridge legal, technical, and ethical considerations. With experience spanning technology law, AI policy, and corporate advisory, she is committed to advancing fair, transparent, and accountable AI worldwide.

Vivianne Hartan

Researcher & Designer

Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia

 

Student passionate about graphic design, technology, and data, with experience in creative media, marketing, and STEM outreach. Currently a Graphic Designer at ZNotes, producing branded visuals for educational content reaching millions worldwide, and Marketing Coordinator at Girls in Med, managing campaigns to empower women in STEM. Hosts two psychology- and neuroscience-focused podcasts under NeuroVista and Where Emotions Flow, making complex topics accessible to youth audiences. Former DataGen Scholar at SaNDAI Cares, gaining skills in generative AI, data visualization, and cloud computing. A World Scholar’s Cup finalist with top placements in debate, writing, and quiz competitions, she combines creativity, communication, and technical skills to educate and inspire global audiences.

Julia Wu

Julia Wu, a second-year high school student in the international department, serving as Publicity Director of the Student Union. Oversees the school’s publicity efforts, including photographing events, drafting promotional materials, and writing news articles to document and share activities with the wider community. Skilled in combining visual and written storytelling to capture the atmosphere of events and highlight student achievements. Works closely with student leaders and faculty to ensure timely, engaging communication across multiple channels, contributing to a vibrant and connected school culture.

Monroe Zhang

Researcher

Paris, France / Beijing, China

Monroe is an energy transition and strategy specialist with experience spanning cleantech, global markets, and policy research. She currently supports European operations and international strategy at Lead Intelligent Equipment, the world’s leading battery production equipment provider. Previously, she worked at the Rocky Mountain Institute on China’s decarbonization roadmap and green hydrogen development, and held roles at Envision Group, the International Energy Agency, and the Brookings Institution. She earned a Master’s in International Energy from Sciences Po Paris on full scholarship and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Diplomacy and Psychology from Peking University, where she also directed the Model United Nations Association. Monroe brings cross-disciplinary expertise to advancing sustainable energy and international collaboration.

Jinwu Xiang

Beijing, China


Founder of a digital humanities initiative focusing on the intersection of AI and cultural heritage. Currently a volunteer researcher at the Peking University Digital Humanities Centre, where she digitises ancient texts and develops AI-powered educational tools. Actively involved in documenting cultural resources in Yunnan’s Waipula Village to support the UN Sustainable Development Goals and rural revitalisation. Previously worked as a digital marketer and content director, creating million-follower accounts and driving audience engagement. With experience spanning digital humanities, remote education, and cultural preservation, she works to merge technology and humanities to safeguard heritage and empower communities worldwide.

Victor Yang

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

 

Seasoned Product Manager with extensive experience leading products from concept to launch and driving sustainable business growth. Most recently managed the full lifecycle of a universal network integrating transactions and payments at a Hong Kong company, from whitepaper drafting to prototype design, development, and iteration. Previously led product strategy at a blockchain company for nearly seven years, raising over $12 million in funding and overseeing market analysis, branding, and cross-functional teams. Earlier built multiple startup apps from the ground up and helped grow an iFlytek product from under 100,000 to over 2 million users worldwide. Passionate about leveraging data and systematic thinking to solve complex challenges and create intuitive, impactful user experiences.

Max Zhang

Outreach & Marketing

Beijing, China / Seattle, United States

 

Chairman of the Shanghai Youth Shanghai Language Research and Learning (Online) Organization and Member of the Voice of Earth Praesidium. Serves as Vice Minister of the Student Union at a top 10 high school in Shanghai, and as Member of the Praesidium and Academic Director of the Mainland–Taiwan Youth Innovation Business Leader Summit. Leads as Head of the BPC Inter-School Society, Coach of the Odyssey of the Mind (OM) varsity team, and President of the school’s OM Society. A member of the PUEC varsity team with two off-campus internships, including a one-month placement at a listed company. Also serves as Vice President of the school’s Artificial Intelligence Society and Biological Society, combining leadership, academic excellence, and extracurricular impact.

Anton Goncear

Researcher

Moldova, Eastern Europe

 

Student with a mixed curriculum background spanning mathematics, physics, history, and more. Developed a passion for programming in 2023, leading to enrollment at STEP IT Academy, one of the largest IT academies globally, where he advanced from a beginner to building full-scale websites, APIs, backend systems, and other complex projects. Pursued additional AI coursework covering regression, neural networks, data science, and other core domains of the modern AI industry. Strongly interested in mathematics and its applications in artificial intelligence, with long-term aspirations to tackle a Millennium Prize Problem. Committed to advancing the field through projects at the intersection of explainable AI, mathematics, and applied computing.

Alongside our core members, FTPL works closely with Young AI Leaders (YAIL), the youth network of the UN’s AI for Good initiative. Through this partnership, we directly collaborate with key YAIL coordinators and members, connecting with experts, policymakers, and innovators from across disciplines to amplify our capacity to turn ideas into action.
